Synopsis:

She was the heir of ash and fire, and she would bow to no one. Celaena Sardothien has survived deadly contests and shattering heartbreak—but at an unspeakable cost. Now she must travel to a new land to confront her darkest truth...a truth about her heritage that could change her life—and her future—forever. Meanwhile, brutal and monstrous forces are gathering on the horizon, intent on enslaving her world. To defeat them, Celaena must find the strength to not only fight her inner demons but to battle the evil that is about to be unleashed.

Before reading this book, I really loved Crown of Midnight, but now I am torn between which book I prefer. I feel like Crown of Midnight was more relationship focused and built on that, whereas Heir of Fire was character focused. By character focused, I mean that we learn so much more about Celaena in this book than we knew about her before. We knew that she had a rough life, but we had no idea. I am glad that this book shared so much of her childhood, it helped me understand her character more. Especially since I felt her to be rather annoying in novellas.

Celaena focuses on learning how to take down the shields that she built up to keep people out and to keep her own feelings at bay. This helps her make her shift from human to fae, from Celaena to Aelin. We are witnessing a huge change in her. We are seeing her turn for assassin to a leader and a Queen.

She wasn't able to master these transformations without the help of a new character. Introduce ROWAN WHITETHORN!! He is this perfectly sculpted, broody, and amazing fae prince. He is Celaena's match in every way. He doesn't take any shit from her and throws her shade right back to her. They end up building a beautiful friendship, someone they both can rely on, and make the greatest pair.

Another super important character development that occurs is with Dorian Havillard. Dorian is finally making moves to get over Celaena in this book. This is great because Dorian deserves to be happy and Sorscha could've made him so happy and was totally making him happy. Aside from this, Dorian actually stood up to his father!! I wanted to scream when this happened!

Another new character we are introduced to in this book is Celaena's cousin and childhood friend, Aedion Ashryver. He comes across as this insensitive asshole but really he is just determined to take down the King of Adarlan. When he finds out about Aelin, he shows that he is still faithful to her and will return to her side.

The last new crucial character that we meet in this book is Manon Blackbeak. She is the heir of the Blackbeak coven of Ironteeth witches. The King has initiated the covens as part of his newest plan so they will ride wyverns into battle for him. Manon goes for the underdog wyvern, the bait one, and saves its life. She is a caring witch with a heart of iron.

Overall, I friggen loved this book. I can't wait to continue with this series.
