REVIEW POST- Blinding Night

Blinding Night by Chantal Gadoury

Read from February 15th to February 16th

Fantasy/Mythology

Synopsis:

What if you were the missing piece in one of the world’s most epic legends?

Despite being an art history student, Summer isn’t thrilled to be stuck with her archeologist family all summer in Greece. While the rest of her college friends are posting a million selfies by the pool together, Summer is stuck alone, trying to entertain herself alone in a place where she doesn’t even speak the language.

Upon her arrival to Greece, strange dreams and even stranger shadows seem to haunt Summer, leaving her to ponder the meaning of pomegranate seeds and twisted, darkened faces.

Suddenly, her stay abroad leads to tragic twists, leaving Summer in the arms of a dark stranger, who claims to be the god, Hades, whom she feels like she knows from another life. In a whirlwind through the busy streets of Athens, Summer is seduced to the lowest point of Greece where Hades’ lair awaits…the Underworld. Determined to find out who she is and where she belongs in an age-old myth, Summer joins Hades to discover that the secrets about her past life are beyond anything she could have ever imagined.

Review:

I received a copy of this book from the author herself in exchange for an honest opinion!

I am a total sucker for mythology, especially Greek mythology. I don't necessarily have a favourite God or Goddess or even a myth at all. BUT, I do have to say that I rather enjoy reading about Hades and Persephone, especially retellings. So, when Chantal approached me about this delightful take on a retelling I had almost jumped for joy and accepted immediately.

Summer is your totally average American college girl. Her parents get are archaeologists who get this amazing opportunity to attend a dig in Greece with National Geographic, so naturally they all up and move to Greece! Heck to the yes. I would do the exact same. Like any girl Summer's age though, she would rather just stay home and chill with her friends. I mean, yeah I tots get it. She is reluctant to this adjustment because of this reason.

Let's talk about Summer's character though. She is so genuine. All of her reactions are totally legit. If I was in her shoes, that is basically how I would react. She is totally 100% relatable. I don't think I have ever met a character that is that relatable before. As all these surreal things are happening to her, she reacts as a genuine human. Totally awesome.

Unfortunately, Greece is not all it's cracked up to be. After a tragedy (always a damn tragedy right?), in walks a tall, dark, and broody man swoops in by the name of Darce claiming to be the King of the Underworld. Ha! Yeah right! Like I said, Greece is not all it's cracked up to be. Not like Summer spent much time there since Darce is actually Hades and sweeps her off to the FRIGGEN UNDERWORLD!

Because of Summer's amazing characteristics, the banter that she has with Darce is just to kill for. If you know what I love to read about in a book with romance, it is glorious banter, and this book was covered it beautiful banter.

To the Underworld now! Not only is this Hades living quarters but also plenty other deities are living down there. I absolutely live for Morpheus, I believe he might be my favourite character!

I'm super excited to read this sequel and continue onwards! I loved this book!
